New Mexico Community Music Initiative dedicates itself to empowering our communities through music education and meaningful musical experiences. We are made up of K-12 educators, artists, UNM education students, and community organizers, and are committed to learning, expressing, and sharing with you all!
What We Do
NMCMI is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Albuquerque, NM that has been active since July 2018. Our work encompasses music classes (guitar and general music for kids/teens/adults), performances focusing on learning about the culture and ideas in art, and research centered around community empowerment through art and pedagogy.
We’re happy to announce that NMCMI has been awarded a seed grant by the Pollination Project Foundation for our Mobile Guitar Program this year!
We are deeply grateful to wrap up 2019 with some singing at Mountain View Community Center’s Winter Fest!

We're putting together our biggest show so far to fund arts education programs across the city! We are happy to welcome: Jose Valle "Chuscales," Lara Manzanares, Soviet Science Fair, Lucho Rodriguez, Jesus Muñoz, Amalyah Leader, and several others! This show will take a close look at beautiful musical traditions from the Andes, Northern New Mexico, Andalusia, and here in Albuquerque and how these artists explore and change those traditions.
